  • AKWA IBOM polytechnic Sug Speaks On the State Of Insecurity In the polytechnic community
  • SUG PRESIDENT

The student Union government of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, has reacted to the news circulating in some speculated areas on social media concerning the state of insecurity worsening the polytechnic community.

In a press release dated 01/10/2020 signed by the Special Adviser to the SUG president on  media and Publicity, Comrade Edidiong Williams said the report is not true as the Union have already  met with youth leaders and other elders of the community to tackle insecurity challenges.

"The attention of the Students Union Government President, Comr Akaninyene Akpan has been drawn to some news items currently circulating few social media platforms on the state of insecurity across communities housing the Polytechnic.

In one of such contents, the President was castigated and tagged as a "disappointed to the union". Another post by an unnamed person and shared across platforms also heighten up the instigation against the President."

The Union President being a man of peace frowns at this development and wishes to put the records straight as follows:

    1. The Students Union Government President several time have met with Youth Presidents of the various host communities to seek their support in combating the present insecurity experienced by the students.

    2. The President had several times placed calls across to security agents including men of the school SPI when called upon by students in matters of emergency. These calls usually comes in as late as 4.00am.

    3. The President has on two occasions in company of the NANS Cordinator Zone B South South and South East Nigeria, Comr Etinyene Friday Offongekpe, JCC Chairman, Comrade Edidiong Uko, Fmr. NANS PRO, Cdr Mike Ibanga, visited the Area Commander in charge of Ikot Ekpene Police Division, Mr. Naziru Bello Kankarofi who after keenly listening to the challenges promised to beef up security patrol in the school area especially as students prepare to resume.

    4. The President also in the company of the same stakeholders recently visited the Rector of the institution, Dr. Moses Umobong who also promised to expedient urgent actions through the host community Chiefs and Youth Leaders to further address the insecurity issues around the area.

    5. It will also interest the student community to know that the President has also written to the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, H.E Mr. Udom Emmanuel through the office of the Special Assistant on Students Matters, Comrade Akwaowo Clifford to also intimate him on the plight of the Students in terms of security.

    6. The NAAKISS WW President, Comrade Ani Michaels is fully aware of the situation and has used his powers to communicate same to the Commissioner for Police in Akwa Ibom State.

"Let me also use this medium to address a recent post made by a student, "Richie Jim" few days ago on the same issue which resulted to threats by some people. I wish to state here that the said post wasn't intended to put fear in the hearts of the people rather in the best interests of students returning back. It was made on grounds of several robbery attacks day in - day out experienced by students in their lodges. I therefore call for peace and plead that all threats towards him cease.

Comrades, these and many more are few of the steps taken by Comrade Akaninyene Akpan in addressing the insecurity challenges experienced by the students. He isn't sleeping but pulling all strings at his disposal to address this issue to the bearest minimal."

On behalf of the President, I sympathize with all those whose properties and lives have been plundered and threatened as a result of this insecurity challenges. With God on our side, we shall come out victorious.  Thank you for your kind support and prayers even as we hope to succeed together. Comrade Edidiong Williams Added.
