  • We Didn't Received Any Incentives- Abia Poly SUG Disclaims Collecting Money From Govt

  • STUDENTS' UNION GOVERNMENT
    ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC
    NIGERIA

    Press Release:
    06/11/2020

REF: DISCLAIMER THAT THE SUG OF ABIA STATE POLYTECHNIC COLLECTED ANY INCENTIVE FROM ANYONE:

Aluta greetings to every alutarized entity and our ever sagacious students in our academic community and beyond.
Our attention has been drawn to several posts on social media that the SUG of ASPOLY were recorded to have been gifted a "Two Million, Five Hundred Thousand Naira" [#2,500,000] incentive alongside the ABSU SUG in a Town Hall meeting at Umuahia and we took it home.

..'A clear conscience [they say] fears no accusation.'
It is disheartening seeing that it has already been believed that such thing happened.
We have been representing the students of this great citadel of learning through pure service and absolute dedication, taking nothing in return from anyone because we wouldn't want a situation whereby we take anything that might compel the students to pay anything in return.

Our administration is never going to accept anything that would cause hardship on the people that stood under the sun to elect us with so much trust in us to represent them.

We are not interested in any incentive that would come into our pockets and put pressure on our students.

When our students suffer, we suffer with them and not the other way round.
Our administration have not seen any added fee on the students, we only work on reducing the already existing ones.

Achieving this, we started by scrapping the 'Nine Hundred Naira' (#900) in the SUG fee.
Again, we were able to overturn a 5years rule of "Full Payment of Tuition fee before exams to Part payment before exams."

We do all we do with joy of leadership, nothing else!

Government comes and go, but reputation remains till the end of the World. And that's our target, an amazing reputation.

Having said that, we were informed of a 'Pandemic Prevention fee' of 'Fifteen Thousand Naira' (#15,000) levied on our neighbors [ABSU] which ofcourse was an atrocious, nefarious, unhallowed and unwarranted imposed fee on students just before the Governor of the State, Victor Okezie Ikpeazu, PhD, came in and scrapped the fee and then authorized a 'Thirty Thousand Naira'(#30,000) bursary to be paid to every Abia indigene in ABSU as a form of little relief to them in these trying times.

Dear Governor and Abia State government officials, it is paramount to note that Abia State University is not the only Tertiary Institution in Abia State, And their students are not the only students struggling in the State.

For the records, Sir, Abia State Polytechnic is the only technological driven Tertiary Institution in Abia State who helps the state industrial market produce marketable products in the land with our students doing a Japan in Aba and Abia State as a whole, while  the whole country are left perplexed with the wonders we do.

Our Governor, authorizing a #30,000 naira bursary to be paid to only the Abia State indigenes in ABSU is a neglect to your subjects who have been in their best ethics and form here in ASPOLY.
If Abia State indigenes in ABSU are getting any bursary, Abia State indigenes in the prestigious Abia State Polytechnic, the only State polytechnic in the state under your leadership, should be included in the plans too, Sir.

We humbly solicit that our request meet your expectations.

    God bless you!

    Signed:
    Yours in service,

    Jasper Orisakwe,
    SUG Director of Information.

    Comr. Emmanuel Ndukwe
    SUG Secretary

    Comr. Onyema Hope Chiadighikaobi
    SUG President
