  • LODGE RENT: SUG, FedPolyOko takes a Bold step

    The Students' Union Government led by Giant Comr.Rtr.Asiegbu Kingsley Chinonso has today visited the Acting President General, Oko Community to inform him of the series of complaints brought to the SUG by the students who live in the lodges in the Polytechnic Community. 

    The President Students' Union Government, Federal Polytechnic Oko Giant Comr.Rtr.Asiegbu Kingsley Chinonso who opened the floor for the introduction of the members of the union with Him also appreciated the PG for his warm welcome being the first time the union is visiting him. 

    In his Words "the union as the Mouthpiece of the students of the polytechnic situated in Oko community, there is a need to have a cordial relationship with the President-General to interact and inform Him on the happenings in the polytechnic which is more of the reasons for the visit".

    The PA, Political Matters to the President explained in detail the essence of the visit citing that the Pandemic has caused the elongation of the academic calendar which has resulted in students staying more than a year in one academic calendar. He further informed Him that the landlord has been issuing Quit notice to the students and some have mandated the students to pay house rent for One full year when the students will barely stay four months in the lodge. 

    The Speaker of the Union informed the PG that the Covid-19 Pandemic has affected the student so much that is why the Union has deemed it fit to find a way to put things right.

    The President General in His reactions thanked the Student's Union Government for the bold step to find a lasting solution to the problem affecting the students. In his words, "I must thank you all for coming and there is also a need to ascertain the way to identify Finalist (ND2 and HND 2), students, so some persons won't hijack the process, we don't know whether the second phase of lockdown will commence as in Lagos currently but we will certainly use what is available to solve the issues, Oko Landlords will be having series of meetings soon, I will take the unions message to them as concerns payment of 4 months/quarter payment by the students". 

    The PG further admonished the Union to encourage the students to be law-abiding and to always defend the polytechnic and protect its properties at all times. He promised to resolve the issues with the landlords. 

    The Director of Welfare, Comr. Chris in his vote of thanks appreciated the PG for his fatherly advice and encouragement to the Union.

    Present in the meeting include the SUG president and Speaker of the House, Secretary General SUG, PRO SUG, Welfare SUG, Chairman House Committee on Students Welfare, PA to the President on Political Matter and Comr. Silas Okolie (CSO).
