GAPOSA STUDENTS AWARD DR. GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN (GCFR, GCON)

The Students of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade, Ogun State under the platform of Rotaract Club of the school have honoured Nigeria’s ex-President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as “Ambassador of National Peace and Unity”.
The students under the Rotaract Club honoured Dr. Goodluck E. Jonathan as part of their programme for the Valentine’s Period tagged LOVE FIESTA; Promoting Love for Peaceful and Harmonious Co-existence in the Society; A Panacea for National Peace and Unity held on February 12th, 2021 through 14th February, 2021 at both campus and host community of the Institution.
The programme chaired and organised by Rotr.( Comr. ) Maiyegun Quam a student leader in the Department of Business Administration and Management who recently completed his programme last October and awaiting N.Y.S.C mobilisation, with his Organising Committee who are also students of the Polytechnic from different departments, was put in place to change the notion of Valentine’s Day as only a day for couples to show love to another, rather, an avenue to show love to family, friends, colleagues and society as that promotes peace and unity.
Before the grand finale of the three(3) days event where Nigerian former President ought to have been presented the award, the students had earlier went across campus and part of the host community to share gifts times in show of love.  The Grand finale had in attendance National, State and Local students leaders under various umbrella with Guest Speakers and Discussants who discussed on the theme of the event.
On the Award to Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR GCON), the students opined that the event is about Love and Peace, thereby part of the activities is to award individuals and Organisations who have contributed to societal peace at any level, which as a result, the former President appeared to be one among other peace loving Nigerians.
The Chairman of the event said “We awarded Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan ( former Nigerian President) on the basis of his pundit changing concession speech after the 2015 Presidential election to concede defeat to H.E President Muhammadu Buhari which doused tension that Nigeria will divide or fall apart. We found his action as one which binds a nation and it is on the cause of peace, tantamount to our value as a reputable club and part of our event”.
For the presentation of the award, the students have expressed wishes to meet the former President in person to present the award to him or otherwise deposit it to a National Museum or Library if they aren’t opportune to meet him.
The students said the award is only  to encourage other Nigerians to uphold peace and harmony as part of National Ethics and Values even as issues currently surround ethnicity in the country.
“A peaceful Nigeria is all that we care for” the students added.
