MISTAKES YOU MUST AVOID WHILE TRAVELING

There is no how a student won’t travel from one place to another whether during semester break or to check up on family, friends and their loves ones but did you also  know that there are some mistakes you must  avoid while traveling? Yes!! So what are these mistakes? They are:

1. UPDATING YOUR MOVEMENT ON SOCIAL MEDIA:  Updating all your movements on social media is a MISTAKE YOU MUST AVOID WHILE traveling as you don’t know ‘who is who’ especially now that insecurity is ravaging the nation. You should keep your movements to yourself or possibly update your loved ones via Phone call or text message and not on social media.   Apart from security challenges, village people can even take advantage of your update on social media to tempt you. Yesterday you updated “Lagos loading 50%” today you updated again with your picture “On my way to Lagos wishing myself journey mercy” you can update your social media after you arrive at your destination. Sometimes Kidnappers target their victims via social media please avoid making these mistakes.

2. FLAUNTING YOUR GADGETS IN A COMMERCIAL BUS: Just to prove that they are rich, some people will flaunt their expensive phones, jewelries in the bus to get attraction but this is wrong. Don’t flaunt your wealth in a commercial bus while traveling As you may loose them to pick pockets. Also when chatting or engaging in a strict conversation on your social media ensure you do it fast to avoid intruders on your privacy.

3. AVOID NIGHT TRAVEL:  Night travel is another mistake   you must avoid  While traveling in Nigeria. Criminals commit a lot of crimes at night such as robbery, ritual, rape and other atrocities And for you not to be a victim of these Circumstances,  you should not travel when you know it’s already late. What if an accident occurs? How will you get help? Difficult isn’t it?

If you want to travel tomorrow, calculate the amount of hours to get to your destination plus possible hours you will spend at the park.  get to the park as soon as possible so that you won’t arrive at your destination late. I’ve read story of a student who was shot dead at night for mistaken identity by vigilante member who mistake him for a robber, such Incident wouldn’t have happened if the student had taken caution. Do not travel at night whether long or short journey. You must avoid making this mistake.

4. DELETE YOUR CREDIT ALERT AND SENSITIVE INFORMATION FROM YOUR PHONE: It is necessary for you to delete your credit alert and other transactions details from your phone to avoid having issue with police on the road. Men of the Nigerian police now check phones and other sensitive information to extort you and to avoid having issues with them, you can just delete your credit alert messages and  Any other incriminating things on you. My friend was Extorted  10k because of the porn videos they found on his phone. Ensure you delete any shit that can cause you delay on your journey from your phone.

5. SLEEPING ON A JOURNEY:  Many people are guilty of these, although we can’t cheat nature but sleeping while on a journey is a mistake you must avoid especially when you are visiting a new place for the first time. Even if you feel sleepy, caution yourself to stay awake. Sleeping while on a journey will expose you to theft as you may loose your wallets, phones and valuables to pick pockets.

6. RECEIVING SENSITIVE CALLS: When receiving a call on a journey, learn to inform the caller that “You will call back later” You should not engage in sensitive conversation while on journey because you may unknowingly leak Your privacy information to Hoodlums.

7. LEARN TO MIND YOUR BUSINESS: It is not every discussion you must interfere On a journey, sometimes you just have to mind your business. Learn to mind your own business in particular political and separatist Conversation  such as APC/ PDP, biafra and oduduwa talks especially now that election is getting close. Keep your opinion to yourself whether you support or oppose. This is a mistake you must avoid while traveling.

Just to cut cost, some people will shun the park and go for  alternate because it’s cheaper Well you may be risking your life doing that as it is not safe now that insecurity is a challenge in the country perhaps if you cherish your life board a bus at the park.

9. INFORM YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY:  Don’t just travel without prior notice, inform at least two persons about your movement. Some students will sneak out of their hostel and travel to meet a strange boyfriend/girlfriend without informing anyone, this is a mistake you must avoid.  To be on safe side, inform at least two or three of your friends about your movement and let the person you are traveling to meet Be aware that your family and friends Knows about your movement as these may Likely prevent story that touch.

10. AVOID TAKING FREE LIFTS:  In as much you have money to get to your destination learn to reject free lifts. Apart from the fact that free lifts is prone to attack.
